Silk Satiné Gimp Thread, Made in France
Gimp is favored by tailors for hand-bound buttonholes with a very raised look, where the gimp is couched to the fabric, such as on a lapel buttonhole. (For regular hand-bound jacket or coat buttonholes, we like Trebizond.)
This gimp is quite thick -- about 1mm diameter -- and unlike many other gimp thread, it is made of silk through and through. The core is multiple strands of cream-colored soie gobelin which is then wrapped in dyed filament silk. The finish is smooth and shiny.
NOTE: This thread was developed for hand-embroiderers, not tailors, and there is no black, nor some other colors that are common for suits. We hope you can find another color to please you!
To keep the gimp ends from fraying, you may apply a small amount of glue to the thread before cutting it. Test the glue on the thread in an inconspicuous place first to ensure that it will not discolor the thread once dry. When you use it, let the glue dry fully before cutting the thread.
Each spool has 3 meters of thread, which equals about 3 1/4 yards.
