Tailor's Clapper and Protective Mat
This wooden clapper helps create professional-looking garments, by flattening seams as much as possible. Immediately after ironing your fabric with hot steam, firmly "clap" this piece of wood down onto the newly-steamed part of your sewing project. The unsealed beech wood absorbs the heat and steam (which would otherwise allow the seam to "bloom", negating the weight of the iron) and the weight you push down with helps make the seam flat as flat can be. The clapper is about 9 1/2" long X 2 1/2" at the widest point X 1 1/2" thick. (24cm X 6cm at the widest end X 3.6cm thick.)
A protective mat is also included, which can help to avoid uneven shiny patches on your garments when pressing. The open weave of the cloth allows you to see your work through it, but keeps the heat from damaging your fabric. Use with a high temperature iron on woolens, silks, and synthetic fibers. Test before using on fabrics with a satin finish, as some satins will pick up the weave of the press cloth. 15 3/4" X 23 1/2" (40 X 60cm)
* If you have a strong preference about the color of the binding on the Protective Mat, please note Green, Blue, or Purple in the "Customer Note" text box at checkout. Otherwise, we'll choose for you.
