The story of the development of these shears in the 1990s is mighty interesting -- so much testing, and the fantastic final result has confounded experts at how well they cut through difficult material. The Teflon coated blades provide superior protection against general wear and tear, and their sidebent design - first patented by Thomas Wilkinson in 1800 - allows the shears to rest flat against the tabletop, and their long length ensure smooth, uninterrupted cuts.
